Varsity sees wide format surge

Gold Coast printer Varsity Graphics is celebrating its 10 year anniversary by moving into a new site to accommodate growing large format work.

Director Sharon Sewell says the eight-staff company has had a huge growth spurt in large format work over the past few years and a move to bigger 160sqm premises was needed to house the equipment.

“We were having to do some work from the garage because we didn’t have enough space in the factory. Now we have room to grow,” she says.

Sewell says the growth has been driven by word-of-mouth referrals and offering specialised work not many printers can do.

“We have managed to make a name for ourselves and people will tell their friends about us,” she says.

“A client might come to us for an emergency or specialist job and once they see what we can do they come back.”

Big new client wins include casinos, hospitality and entertainment industries, universities and TAFEs, and with Education Queensland to fit out a new school.

Sewell says she hopes to be able to hire a full time salesperson in the next year so she and her father Harry Brelsford can focus more on other areas of the business.

Varsity Graphics produces both digital and offset printing along with labels, large format, finishing, ‘agency quality’ graphic design, and marketing services. About 50 per cent of its offset work is trade printing.
