Wellcom takes full control of print management venture

The diversified group has bought out Australia’s Post’s 50% stake in iPrint, the print management business the pair formed as a 50:50 joint venture in 2001.

The announcement coincided with news Wellcom has bought out the assets of a London-based pre-media studio that supplies global creative agency Bartle Bogle and Hegarty (BBH).

On the phone from London, where he is bedding in the new acquisition, Wellcom chief financial officer Julian Graham told ProPrint that the iPrint restructure does not mean Wellcom is taking its eyes off print management.

The group will continue to provide print management and pre-media services to Australia Post, and iPrint will continue to service existing customers, such as Ford.

Graham (pictured) said there have been no changes to the operation’s 20-plus headcount, and added that “the jury is still out” as to whether the iPrint brand will continue long term. “Wellcom is going to be in the print management space and any new business will come via Wellcom.”

He said that going it alone would allow Wellcom to be “more nimble and more flexible” in its print management offering, but added that this was not to detract from the strength of its decade-long partnership with Australia Post.

“We have had a 10-year partnership with Australia Post and they have been fabulous to work with throughout this process.”
