Willmax Printing expands into new premises as offshore production pays off

The company will run a skeleton staff at its new office in the Melbourne suburb of Keysborough, sourcing materials from a privately owned production hub running around the clock in Thailand.

Willmax director Max Osborn said the father-and-son operation has been able to make “huge” savings in production costs.

“We get the benefit of both the quality of Australia and the pricing of Asia,” he said.

“To employ 18 people to service machines in Australia is a huge cost, so we have been able to make a huge saving in our labour rate. At the same time, we have a very high quality of staff over there because they are very happy to work for us.”

Osborn’s father, Ross, is based in Chang Mai, where the company runs a range of large- and small-format digital and finishing equipment. Willmax specialises in producing graphics kits for motorcycle companies, but also uses the hub to produce a wide variety of digital material.

Max Osborn stressed the company was an Australian business but said offshore production had given it a point of difference.
