Women in Print meet early for breakfast

MC Karen Goldsmith, Executive Director GAMAA, welcomed the panel members – Susan Heaney of Heaney’s Performance in Print; Helen Woods of Fairfax Media; Sarah Thomas, 2007 GAMAA/LIA Graduate of the Year; Belinda Baker of Daltons Paper and Anne Read from Lithocraft New Zealand.

Each of these inspiring women shared their personal experiences across a range of careers within the print industry, proving the glass ceiling in this particular instance has certainly been shattered.

Helen Woods had the audience in stitches revealing that her commitment to her career saw her forsake the comforts of her family home for 12 months to take a post managing Express Print in the regional Victorian town of Morwell.

“My husband and daughter thought I was joking when I said I was moving to Morwell (from Sydney). They said they weren’t coming and I thought they were joking. As it turned out neither of us were joking.”

Determination, courage and a commitment to stay the course was the common thread amongst all these women.
