More than 300 guests attended the gala event last Saturday held at the Hilton hotel in Brisbane.

Gold winners included Heaney’s Performers In Print, PMP Print, Geon, Craft Inprint and Cornerstone Press, but none came close to matching the Platypus tally.

Platypus owner Tom Lusch told ProPrint that the printer had consistently achieved highly at the PICAs over the years, but this year’s success was a big surprise.

“We’re pretty happy with the result that is for sure, especially when you consider now that only 35% of our work now is for the commercial print market.”

“We do have a bit of an advantage because we do a lot of embellishment in-house and we have a number of fancy tools at our disposal. You could say there is a passion for quality in this place.”

In second place came Heaney’s Performers in Print, which went home with four golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

Susan Heaney said: “We are very proud of our win, which reinforces our position in the market as a leading quality printer. My staff are all dedicated to producing work of the finest quality and equally proud of our success at this years PICAs.”

Screen Offset Printing took home the Environmental Management Award, while Craft Inprint Brisbane secure the Judges’ Special Commendation Award.
