ABnote buys US plastic card co

The acquisition almost doubles ABnote' US operations. ABnote Group companies globally will now produce more than two billion cards a year making the group one of the largest card producers in the world. Operations extend across North and South America, Europe, North Africa, and Australasia.

Arthur Blank & Company is a leader in green technologies, such as corn-based and recycled plastic cards. ABnote intends to promote these products globally, to help reduce waste and the industry's dependence on petroleum-based plastics.

The acquisition comes less than 12 months since ABnote acquired Leigh Mardon, which in turn acquired the assets of Security Plastics and Bankprint in Australia, and ABnote NZ acquired the assets of Security Plastics and Bankprint in New Zealand. These acquisitions consolidated the group's scale of operations as the largest in the region.

It has an annual turnover of approximately A$130 million per year. The company employs around 700 people and has an extensive operations network across Australia and New Zealand. It currently produces two billion secure personalised documents and 100 million plastic credit/debit/smart/identity cards a year for customers in the banking, government and commercial sectors.

The acquisition gives ABnote access to new technologies, high volume capacity and intellectual property as well as unparalleled business continuity capabilities," said Mr Taylor. "We will be able to offer an even broader product range to our customers worldwide," he said.

Leigh Mardon in Australia is continuing to seek out potential acquisitions and strategic alliances to compete more effectively in increasingly competitive domestic and international markets.
