Aus Paper acquires BJ Ball’s EDOP

Australian Paper says it is continuing to support paper manufacturing in Australia with its acquisition of BJ Ball’s ED Office Products (EDOP) business.

The takeover follows Australian Paper’s acquisition of Envelope Specialists and Trade Envelopes earlier this year, which it claims has brought the manufacturing of 100 million envelopes back to Australia.

Australian Paper sales director Gary Harris says, “This acquisition is the most recent step in Australian Paper’s turnaround plan, announced in 2015, and will contribute to the ongoing success of paper manufacturing in Australia over the longer term.”

Aus Paper says the takeover of EDOP will expand its range of office paper and stationary, which will include both imported and local products, with the goal of eventually seeing local products replace the imported streams.

Harris says, “This opportunity is good news for paper manufacturing in Australia and the thousands of local jobs that Australian Paper proudly supports.”

BJ Ball is known to be a buyer of businesses rather than a seller. Australian Paper is celebrating 80 years of Australian paper manufacturing. Last year it instigated a turnaround plan, including a strategy of providing premium office papers for the local market.
