Australia Post joins with MMUA for mail initiative

The scheme, which was launched at the MMUA annual convention, will benefit mail houses, mail generators and Australia Post and is a collaborative effort with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Bob Finch, Australia Post acting managing director, says, “BMP is a recognition of the important role that mail houses play in ensuring the integrity and quality of all the processes involved in converting data into a physical letter.”

To qualify for BMP status mail houses need to commit to and demonstrate process improvement and use of electronic lodgement of mailing statements and customer barcode quality assurance.

John Gillroy, MMUA CEO, says that BMP status would soon become a standard required of all mailing houses wanting to do business with the high volume mail generators, and believes that generators of mail will see it as a major criterion to be applied whenever letting contracts.

“Australia Post is committed to providing letter based business solutions which meet customer needs and extends the life of letter mail,” says Finch.

“The BMP scheme is one aspect of industry improvement we are striving for, but we have also invested in state-of-the-art mail processing technology, extensive research and a dedicated team devoted to promoting direct mail.”

The recent independent research commissioned by Australia Post indicated direct mail clearly delivers results with 67 per cent of customers preferring to receive promotional material in their letterboxes over other communication mediums.

“As an industry, there are many challenges to ensure the longevity of paper-based communications, but collectively there is still much scope for improvement to deliver results and the BMP program will nurture continued progress,” says Finch.
