Blue Star boosts NZ web capacity by 30%

The 20-staff site, which is expected to ultimately employ more than 50 full-time workers, was opened by the mayor of Auckland, Len Brown, on 11 June.

The plant is underpinned by “foundation” client ACP Magazines, with work such as New Zealand Property Press, Woman’s Day, the New Zealand edition of The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Warwick Hay, chief executive of Webstar Australia and New Zealand, said: “Whoever said that print is dead is being presumptuous in the extreme; this great new facility shows that the printed word is alive and well and being produced in west Auckland.

“This new facility marks Webstar’s entry into the large-scale production of magazines and will extend our ability to produce publications and other printed products of the highest quality.”

The 13,500sqm plant operates a pair of 16pp Manroland Rotoman web presses.

ProPrint published an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the plant in our April issue.
