Cactus sales jump 18 per cent

Billboard printer Cactus Imaging has boosted sales 18 per cent this year and is looking to build on it with another round of equipment upgrades.

General manager Nigel Spicer says the outdoor industry is booming and his business is reaping the benefits, especially during the summer season which has seen a strong spending rise.

“We are at our peak and it will continue to be that way until the end of summer as people are out about and advertisers want to take advantage of that and promote their brands,” he says.

“The company has seen consistent growth for the last few years now and we do not expect that to end anytime soon.”

Spicer says the Opus subsidiary is still in talks with two major suppliers to decide which kit it will buy, but a decision is expected soon.

Cactus installed a five-metre Fujifilm Uvistar Pro 8 in April and a HP Latex 3000 the year before to go with several other HP printers.

While the rise of digital outdoor is a growing threat, now making up 25 per cent of sales across the sector, Spicer says more printers entering the market is also a trend.

“As we see the industry boom, we are also seeing competition grow. Everyone is getting into the wide format market; but that does not worry us as we have been around for a long time and have established good relationships with clients,” he says.

“We also deliver good products and on time to our clients so we are not worried about the competition.

“My gut feeling is that the market will continue to grow and for that reason we are expanding and should have new kit by the end of the year.”
