Catalogues hold strong against online competitors

The latest quarterly ACRS Shopper Report finds print catalogue purchasing is expected to remain stable over the next 12 months despite an increase in online purchasing. The report which tracks catalogue performance in terms of audience readership, usage, purpose and shopping behaviour has found 74 per cent of shoppers use catalogues ‘always to sometimes’. The report also found 71 per cent of shoppers stated they would use catalogues as much as they do now, with 15 per cent reporting they would increase their use.

The internet beats out catalogues when it comes to shoppers seeking product information and price comparison but catalogues are still preferred over in-store advice. Australasian Catalogue Association CEO Kellie Northwood says the research indicates catalogues are a high performing print media.   “The ACRS behavioural tracking highlighted, on average, shoppers choose to read catalogues to find competitive prices and chase bargains,” says Northwood.   She says, “In the comfort of their own home consumers will often read catalogues for enjoyment and prefer reading catalogues more frequently, with an advertorial design, as their most preferred style of catalogue.”
