Cheque-mates GM hits the road for charity

The ride, which will take him to Sydney via Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, is expected to take more than eight days.

Edwards told ProPrint that he found the chance to combine charity with one of his passions having picked up cycling as a serious hobby a year-and-a-half ago.

“I’ve always wanted to do something like this but I just didn’t know what exactly. So when the opportunity came up to do something I love for a good cause, I took it,” he said.

His initial target of $5,000 is already in sight so Edwards has now set a challenge of raising $9,000.

Edwards said he’s been preparing for the ride by doing 100km rides on the weekends.

“I’m reasonably confident, but I won’t know until I get out there,” he said.

The ride continues a streak of charitable acts from Cheque-mates, after Rodney Frost, chief executive of the Sydney-based printer, recently participated in the St Vincent de Paul Society’s ‘CEO Sleepout’.

Meanwhile, Fuji Xerox Australia is also getting on two wheels to raise money for charity, as Simon Lane and six others are set to take part in the MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride.

Lane, who is the national manager for graphic communications at FXA, is hoping to raise $3,000 with the ride, which takes place on 7 November.

Proceeds go towards helping people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Donations can be made here.
