Cheque-Mates to double output with iGen 150

Australia-wide trade printer Cheque-Mates predicts it will double its print volumes over the next two years after installing a Xerox iGen 150 press.

Cheque-Mates is part of the Lamson Group of businesses which provides trade services to the traditional commercial print market on top of mailing, fulfilment and distribution services.

Cheque-Mates CEO Rodney Frost saw a need to upgrade after previously relying on eight office-grade printers to meet client needs.

Frost says the printers could not process a bulk order and the business would often use smaller batches just to complete a job.

“Our strategy was to be the only business in town that could act as a trade communications partner to the mailing houses and printers, so we needed enough printing capacity to handle their work and the professionalism to use production-standard machines,” Frost explains.

“We needed a large production printer that could print on gloss stock, support large files and complete jobs quickly, and to do that we had to ensure that we partnered with a vendor willing to support our continued growth.”

The Xerox iGen 150 Press was installed over two days, with one Fuji Xerox Australia manager remaining onsite until 1am to ensure the printer was fully operational, according to Frost.

Frost is now flagging a move to three eight-hour shifts per day over five days, boosting the company’s output by 50 per cent.

Frost adds, “I think it will take until late 2016 for us to experience an uplift in volumes, but I would expect our volumes to double within two years.”

While Frost admits the company encountered initial challenges bedding the solution in, he says the Fuji Xerox Service team has provided full support during and after the installation.

“The tiered Fuji Xerox service offering ranges to a technician arriving within two hours if required and an escalation process that quickly sees serious issues raised with and managed by technically adept and experienced team members,” Frost says. “They were extremely committed to making sure that we were successful.”

Recently Cheque-Mates has also installed a Xerox Color 800 press and Frost says the business will also be investing in finishing as the next key area.

The Lamson Group was founded in 1994 and has since expanded operations into Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and the Philippines.
