Commins departs Graphic Packaging

Graphic Packaging Australia and New Zealand general manager Alex Commins has departed the leading packaging print business six months after it took over 100 per cent of Colorpak shares.

Executive assistant to Commins, Gabrielle Streat confirmed his departure from the company, telling Australian Printer, “He has chosen to go and pursue other opportunities.”

Graphic Packaging has since appointed company chief financial officer Sid Troiani as interim general manager until a replacement can be found.

Both Commins and Troiani have been contacted for comment.

The Commins family has owned or part owned Colorpak since 1985 with Commins joining the company in 1992 and serving as CEO since 2003. His departure marks the end of the family involvement with the business, which saw three Commins brothers involved at one time.

In 2015 Commins won a three-year contract extension after the company bounced back from a poor 2014 performance to report a $1.6m profit for the 2015 half-year. Commins’ notice period for terminating his contract also doubled to 12 months.

Troiani joined Colorpak in 2015 after previously serving as chief operating officer for the Amcor Australasian business prior to its demerger from Amcor. He has been a chartered accountant for more than 25 years.

Colorpak listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 2004 and subsequently launched an aggressive acquisition strategy, buying Wadepack in 2005 and then Carter Holt Harvey’s packaging business in 2011.

In January it was revealed Graphic Packaging would acquire Colorpak, with the takeover given the green light in April when shareholders voted in favour of the move which involved 100 per cent ownership of its shares.

Both Commins and Troiani retained their positions following Graphic Packaging’s takeover.
