Crowds arrive as PrintEx opens

Pre show publicity had clearly reached the target audience as printers from across the state waited in the foyer for the 10am opening. The three day show is expected to attract in the region of 10,000 printers.

Among the innovations at this year's PrintEx are the Forums, a space for debate and discussion on the major issues affecting printers. The first Forum, held yesterday featured analyst and commentator Peter FitzSimons with Australia's biggest sheetfed printer Gordon Towell of the Geon Group discussing how to control the future, and was standing room only. Today's Forum is moderated by leading journalist Jennie Brockie.

In the aisles there was plenty to keep the visiting printers occupied, with a host of new products and solutions. Presses on the stands included a Heidelberg SM52 with its new Anicolor inking and dampening system, as well as a Ryobi 925, which was the biggest press at the show, the Sakurai 466SI and a Shinohara two-colour 52 machine.

Digital printing was ubiquitous, with Canon, Fuji Xerox, Konica Minolta, Oce, HP Indigo among those wowing printers with not only the ability of the systems but with their workflow presentations.
