ECRM unveils 120 plates-per-hour CTP for newespapers

The MAKO NEWSmatic HS platesetter produces over 120 plates per hour and employs ECRM’s patented FleXarm slip sheet removal system that automates CTP production. Via sensors, slip-sheets are tracked through pick-up, removal and disposal using ECRM’s patented slip sheet compacting technology.

At the show, ECRM will be exhibiting a MAKO NEWSmatic HS running live with a Glunz & Jensen online processor, as well as showcasing the MAKO NEWS platesetter.

“Newspaper publishers are in a constant search for higher productivity,” says ECRM product manager, John Marzec.

“The introduction of a higher-speed platesetter is an obvious attraction. But the automated features of the MAKO NEWSmatic HS are just as beneficial. It enables plates to be imaged and processed automatically and without human interaction. It’s these time savings that are critical to deadline-sensitive publishers. As we say in our promotions, it’s the ideal transition to unattended CTP production for local and regional newspaper publishers.”

The fully automated MAKO NEWSmatic HS provides enhanced levels of simplicity, versatility and economy. Optimized plate handling allows high-production performance of over 120 plates per hour, while a straight-through plate path eliminates complex load/unload cycles. Ideal for all popular single-width newspaper presses (from Berliner to Goss), the MAKO NEWSmatic HS accommodates the widest range of web widths up to a maximum format of 635mm x 927mm.

ECRM’s patented FleXarm slip sheet removal system makes automation a realistic possibility for smaller and medium-sized printers as sensors track slip-sheets through pick-up, removal and disposal using patented slip sheet compacting technology. ECRM’s high-capacity plate cassette and trolley can hold up to 340 8-gauge (0.2mm) plates or 250 12-gauge (0.3mm) plates at one time. To provide added flexibility, the optical configuration includes eight resolutions from 1016 to 2540 dpi and three anamorphic resolution sets (1016 x 2032 dpi,1200 x 2400 dpi, and 1270 x 2540 dpi).

The Violet CTP platesetter offers high-quality color production for small and medium-sized newspapers. By providing flexible format combined with fast, easy operation, the MAKO NEWS platesetter is ideal for deadline-driven publishing environments where dependable quality output is essential. It’s capable of producing over 78 Berliner plates per hour at 1200 dpi without complex load/unload cycles, and accommodates the most popular range of web widths (up to a maximum format of 635mm x 960mm).

The MAKO NEWS is engineered for most single-width newspaper presses (i.e. Berliner and Goss). To provide added flexibility, the optics are designed to deliver eight resolutions from 1016 to 2540 dpi and three anamorphic resolution sets (1016 x 2032 dpi, 1200 x 2400 dpi, and 1270 x 2540 dpi). Combined with a small footprint, an easy installation process, and a simple-operation approach, the MAKO NEWS enables newspaper publishers to quickly benefit from CTP implementation.
