Edgecliff has Canon on the cards

Nita Prasad, Edgecliff Print director of sales and marketing, says, “I was reading a trade magazine and I saw the P-660C. It looked quite interesting and we’re always on the lookout for innovation, so I contacted Canon to see what it was all about.

“I discussed it with the staff and we decided that it would be a great investment for the business, given that we already do 400-500 sets of business cards a month. Being able to print faster would be a great advantage for us.”

The P-660C prints standard business cards at 80 pages-per-minute, and post cards at 35 pages-per-minute, on a choice of either matte or glossy media at up to 300gsm, and features six colours, CMYK plus photo cyan and photo magenta.

In an example cited by Prasad, a customer walked into Edgecliff Print on a Saturday and said that she was going overseas on the Monday and needed business cards to go with her.

“If we’d done that job through traditional offset means, we would have had to wait until a printer was on site before we could even think about it,” says Prasad.

“Of course, it would have also taken a number of days before we’d made artwork, created the plates, put it on the press, let it dry and then guillotined it. You’d be looking at a three or four day process.”

Instead, Edgecliff Print’s customer walked in the door at 10 o’clock in the morning and left at 3pm with her cards – including the time it took to develop her artwork – thanks to the P-660C.

Prasad is also impressed with its ease of use, saying, “Our staff find the P-660C very easy to use. To produce colour cards on our colour copier, for example, we have to impose those cards and multi up on a sheet, run the job, then guillotine it down. With the P-660C, they don’t need to do any of that. They simply produce a one-off piece of artwork and end up with a finished product at the other end.”
