Fergies joins PMP with election win

At least one Queenslander has been guaranteed a win in the upcoming election after Fergies Print & Mail snared a ballot printing contract.

Fergies, which describes itself as "Brisbane's biggest family-owned offset and digital printing company", won a pre-qualified tender for the printing and distribution of ballot papers and associated products.

The contract was valued at $1.2 million by the Australian Electoral Commission.

Fergies chairman John Ferguson declined to comment.

PMP had its own election win earlier in the year when it was awarded a $1.7 million contract to produce a leaflet called 'Your Official Guide to the 2013 Federal Election'.

Meanwhile, the Printing Industries Association of Australia said some politicians may have been forced to order extra how-to-vote cards after making mistakes with their original orders.

Chief executive Bill Healey said changes to the Commonwealth Electoral Act meant candidates were now obliged to include authorisation details on the front of the cards.

"With the pressure of preparing their election material for the 2013 Federal election, it appears from the feedback I have received from our members that some politicians are unaware of the requirement in spite of being involved in the passing of the legislation," he said.
