Fire damages paper machine at Amcor

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade responded to an alarm from Amcor’s paper recycling factory at Alphington at 6.30am with crews rushing to the site to find a 100 metre long paper making machine ablaze on the first floor.

Amcor staff present were unhurt by the blaze.

The fire brigade says the fire started within the heat processing unit in the upper section of the machine. The fire department were assisted by an installed fire protection sprinkler system at the site. There was significant damage to the machinery with some damage to the roof space.

The packaging giant was recently recognised by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its approach to the disclosure of climate change information.
