First 200 printers offered free govt business coaching

Australian printers have the opportunity to gain a competitive edge with a free 12 month coaching program, developed by Future Print, beginning February 10, but only 200 out of 350 places are available, on a first come first served basis.
Following an initial two hours session printers will be allocated a business coach, who will be with the company for 12 months. All this is free, funded by Future Print.

Speaking with Australian Printer, Peter Mansfield, member services general manager for Printing Industry Association of Australia, says, “It is a bit like a personal trainer for the business, we cannot do the work for them, but we can provide them with advice on how to prepare for change and reformation.”

“We have convinced the federal government that printing industry is undergoing significant change and it must be supported.

“Across the program – developed in August – the government has allocated $4m, which includes the initial business review program.”

According to Mansfield, February is the ‘last chance for businesses to get involved as we have nearly reached our quota and it is unlikely the government will provide funding of this scale again’.

To participate in the program, attendees must be trading in the print and communication sectors or their supply chains for at least three years. They must be in possession of an Australian Business Number, be solvent and have a turnover of less than $50m in the previous financial year.

According to Mansfield, February is the ‘last chance for businesses to get involved as we have nearly reached our quota and it is unlikely the government will provide funding of this scale again’.

While Mansfield could not provide programs’ success stories because he says it is ‘quite new’, he insists the ‘general feedback has been very good’.

Briefings sessions begin February 10-27 and are held in major cities and towns across Australia, including several in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Bendigo, Hobart and Launceston, with some locations yet to be confirmed.
