Foyer Printing adds PrintFlow DIPS on Komori 28 presses

Colour Graphic Services, A/NZ dealer for PrintFlow systems, has installed PrintFlow DIPS on two of Foyer’s existing Komori 28 offset presses.

According to Colour Graphic Services, the installation, which was just completed following a COVID-delay, brings digital ink preset control to the machines and reduces make-ready by half, improving colour and reducing waste.

Foyer Printing was established in 2000 by Ron Rankin and specialises in service club and trade/wholesale printing.

It started with single colour presses, then added the pre-owned Komori 28s, digital, finishing and wide format and today employs over 40 people, having acquired Ashmore Printing and Design, Tweed Print and Gold Coast Printing along the way.

Colour Graphic Services managing director David Crowther said, “The installation was delayed by the Queensland lockdowns but is now in full operation – and the customer is delighted. The Komori 28s have been brought up to today’s automated ink control standards with the addition of PrintFlow CIP3 capability.

“Within one day, Foyer was able to reduce make-ready times by more than half. Following the implementation of the optimised ink profile, Foyer was able to achieve its standard colour within 40 to 50 sheets. The time savings alone now allow for increased productivity and job capacity over the customer’s two shifts.  ROI is expected to be realised within two to four months.”

Printflow DIPS is a Digital Ink Preset System that fits almost all presses, making them CIP3 compatible.

Printflow DIPS links prepress workflow and press consoles, automatically programming ink key settings for each new job. The DIPS package includes hardware and software necessary for communication between prepress equipment and press consoles.

Operator training can be done in a couple of hours. DIPS introduces older offset presses into a modern production workflow and can do the same for newer presses, often at lower cost than OEM prices.

“It’s been a pleasure to help a great printer like Foyer Printing to maximise its offset press investment in this way, using PrintFlow DIPS. There are well over 2,000 similar installations worldwide, including several in Australia and New Zealand since we signed up with PrintFlow at Drupa 2016,” Crowther added.
