Fujifilm launching LED UV printer at PacPrint

Fujifilm is adapting and expanding its Acuity LED 1600, to create the Acuity LED 3200R UV printer, which will be debuted at PacPrint.

Warren Hinder, manager, Graphics Systems Division, Fujifilm says, “We are excited about the LED 3200 making it to PacPrint in time. Releasing a new product is not just a question of flying it in; technical staff need to be trained, supply chain established and so on.

“It uses a new type of Uvijet ink because of the low-energy LED method of curing, which is more environmentally friendly and economical than metal halide UV curing.”

The 3.2 metre printer uses the LED UV technology of the 1600, of which 900 units have been sold by the company. Fujifilm says that its LED UV uses lower energy and an alternative bandwidth of UV light, and as a result the inks used need to be matched for the spectrum. The company has adapted the 1600’s inkset, creating what it says it a new, more flexible Uvijet LF inkset for the 3200R.

Fujifilm says the LF flexible inks open up more applications across the soft signage sector: printing onto fabrics used for backlit panels, exhibition displays, teardrop outdoor banners, and pull-up portable displays.

The 3200R has a top speed of 110sqm/h in its CMYK 2-pass only mode, 40sqm/h in its 4-colour six-pass mode, and 60sqm/h using all colours at four-pass. Standard production, incorporating all colours (CMYK + Lc, Lm, W) with twelve passes, the 3200R prints at 20sqm/h.

With a focus on backlight panel production for the 3200R, Fujifilm has added an on-board backlit display so that the results can be assessed during production. In this mode, Fujifilm says the 3200R uses sixteen passes, with a production speed of 7.5sqm/h, allowing colours to remain saturated and vibrant.

The dual-roll 3200 can print on both rolls simultaneously, each variable up to 1.52m wide, loaded to print either the same or two different jobs. Fujifilm says this creates three printers in one, increasing the LED 3200’s versatility.

Two different rips are available, ColorGate Production Suite 9 or Caldera’s V10.

Hinder says, “I invite anyone looking at the 3.2m wide-format roll-to-roll sector to book in a demonstration on this remarkable machine. It ticks all the boxes for the environment, occupational safety, low power consumption, versatility and, as for the image quality, we will let that speak for itself at PacPrint. The colours are vibrant and wide gamut.”

Fujifilm will share a stand with Fuji Xerox, E10, at this year’s PacPrint.
