GoPrint to close doors at end of month

The Liberal National Party (LNP) confirmed the printer will cease operations at the end of the month. A spokesman for Housing and Public Works Minister Tim Mander says, “Over the past three years, taxpayers have spent almost $10m to cover GoPrint losses.

“Following a thorough review, the department has identified a suitable private printing firm capable of providing secure printing services at a significantly lower cost.” That company is LitSupport, a national security documents printer.

The Newman Government had announced GoPrint would stop commercial printing operations last July after mounting losses.

Former Housing Minister Bruce Flegg, who resigned from his position in November, had said at the time that the printing company would continue with small printing work for the State Government, such as Bills and Hansard, but that work will now be contracted to LitSupport.

Val Pitt, founder and director, LitSupport told Australian Printer, “We have taken over from Go Print in providing Reserved Service Printing. This includes but is not limited to Parliamentary documents such as bills, Explanatory notes, Hansard and legislation, but is extended to include any other secure and sensitive printing for the Queensland Parliament. Additionally, we will be implementing “on Demand” printing of legislation and other government publications for all Government Departments.”

Formerly known as The Government Printing Office, GoPrint has been a key supplier of printed and electronic communication materials to the State Government since 1862.

The closure will lead to equipment, including high-quality printers, being sold or auctioned off.
