Heidelberg orders surge post-drupa

Internationally, incoming orders have climbed to around €890m (A$1019m) compared to €665m from the previous year, the highest in four years. Locally, Heidelberg Australia New Zealand has also picked up.

Alastair Hadley, general manager, sales, marketing and product management, Heidelberg Graphic Equipment, says “The new products and enhancements released and shown at drupa have definitely given printers a reason to upgrade resulting in the strong order intake. Australia is an industrialised market and most of the press sales we have made have been directed towards lowering costs, that is: replacing two to three of the old technology machines with a new, highly automated, high speed and highly productive machine. This is particularly noticeable in the A1 sheet size sector.

“As of today, I can confirm that we have sold 20 new Speedmaster presses with the first four of these being installed as we speak. Looking forward, we have another seven new Speedmaster presses on the water which will be installed over the next couple of months. These will be followed by the very first installation of a new SX102 Speedmaster and CX102 complete with the newly released Autoplate Pro fully automatic plate loading and, in addition to the ones mentioned above, early next year we will be installing two new Speedmaster XL106 presses, one of which is capable of perfecting up to 18,000 sph.”

Seven of the presses have been purchased by Victorian printers, with four from New South Wales, three from New Zealand, two from Queensland and Western Australia, and one each from South Australia and a neighbouring Island.

He concludes, “Interestingly, all these A1 presses have been purchased by medium sized business operations that obviously have confidence in offset as a technology moving forward and also their own ability to compete and be successful in print.”
