International printer takes major Galley Club award

Imago, which received the top award for its publication Shoot, published by Murdoch Books, also won awards in five other categories including Sheet fed, Case Bound Book; Sheet fed Limited Edition Book; Non standard Novelty Book or Stationary Item; Innovation in Publishing and Print, and Non standard Item of the Year.

Along with Australian book of the year for its publication Icons of Australian Sport: Peter Brock, published by Hyperactive Inc, PBA Group also took out the Sheet fed, Mono Book Cased or Limp Bound category.

Michael Schulz, director of SOS Print Media, and organiser of the event says all the major printing and publishing houses were in attendance, as well as suppliers of printers, designers and typesetters.

Schulz says, “The awards raise the bar in the industry, any measurement of quality is always a good thing. It showcases the possibilities of the industry as well as raising people’s awareness as to who else is in the market.”

Two of Australia’s largest printers also received recognition on the night with Griffin Press winning the Web fed, Mono/Duotone/4c Book, Case Bound category, with its subsidiary Griffin Digital receiving gold in the Non standard, Mono/Duotone Digitally Printed Book category.

Moreover, McPhersons Printing Group won the Web fed, Mono/Duotone 4c Book, Limp Bound category for its publication A Question of Death, published by Allen and Unwin.
