Irish nationals buck newspaper downturn

ABC figures for July to December 2007 report two of the newspapers saw improvements in circulation, while the third recorded no change.

The Irish Independent posted a 0 per cent change in circulation at 160,854. The Irish Times saw the best increase, up 0.8 per cent to 119,051 and the Irish Examiner was up 0.2 per cent to 55,948.

However, things do not look so positive for local newspapers. The number of evening papers circulated across the Republic has dropped by 1.5 per cent (1.680) compared with the same period last year.

Dublin’s The Evening Herald dropped 0.9 per cent to 82,084 and The Evening Echo in Cork showed a 3.4 per cent dip in circulation to 25,904.
