Jacpak grows 20% from new business

Melbourne packaging printer Jacpak has boosted sales by 20 per cent in the past year on the back of new clients, better equipment and a new web-to-print platform.

Jacpak sales manager Steve Graham says the Ego Print subsidiary managed to lure a Melbourne-based pet care firm to bring its folding carton production back to Australia early last year.

“We continually worked with them on innovation and efficiency, so we could get their costs down,” he says.

“Chinese businesses are ramping up in the packaging sector so it’s always a challenge staying on top.”

Since then, the company has won a swathe of new clients in the health care, pharmaceutical, dairy, FMCG, and beverage industries, and continues to service existing clients in confectionery and cosmetics.

Graham says: “We continue to invest in advanced pre-press and design software to enable us to recognise a customer’s fresh perspective requirement and innovate accordingly,” he says.

The increased productivity has allowed the 30-staff operation to add an extra carton finishing shift.

Another major business driver is its new Jacpak Portal, a web-to-print system sporting electronic proof submission, online approvals and ripping.

It uses 3D Visual Studio Designer Software and prototypes are made using a Kongsberg XE10 Carton Sample Table.

Jacpak is also planning site expansions to include additional print and finishing capacity, which Graham says are well underway.

Graham says the business tries to be as environmentally friendly as possible. “We take our environmental responsibility seriously which is why we are proud to be FSC and PEFC chain of custody certified.”

Jacpak was founded in 2000 when Ego Print decided to expand into packaging. It operates diecutting, gluing and windowfacing machines, and a pair of Heidelberg Speedmasters: a 10-colour SM 102 and a CD 102 with double coater and interdeck.
