JPE Industry Review Night 2006

For the past few years JPE has been privileged to have Dr Chris Caton (Chief Economist for BT Financial Group) and Hagop Tchamkertenian (Industry and Commercial Policy Manager for Printing Industries Association of Australia) to speak on economic trends, as well as the state of the printing industry.

Dr Caton provided an indication that the Australian economy was sending mixed signals and interest rates were on hold but are at risk of a rise. Despite the high oil prices that the world has experienced in the past year, world economic growth has remained positive.

After studying the trends, Dr Caton revealed that in the next 10 years for global medium-term growth prospects, Australia and the US were expected to record the strongest growth among the Western nations.

Printing professionals in the audience were reassured about the industry with reports of its consistent growth for three consecutive quarters.

Hagop again focused on the fact that although the trade deficit improved in 2005,the printing industry still continued to face large deficits. However, Mr Tchamkertenian says, when looking at the printing industry as a whole, there are signs of strong business confidence.

Randa Amatoury Treasurer JPE NSW, thanks all members, nominators and guests for their support and welcome all junior printing professionals to become involved in JPE’s educational monthly events.
