Kodak releases new Nexpress

Available now, the first product in the SE Platform is the Kodak NexPress SE3600 Digital Production Colour Press, which Kodak says is the only sheetfed digital production colour press to offer unconstrained 3600 A3+ sheets per hour, 120 ppm performance. Kodak says that combined with its Insite Campaign Manager and Kodak Prinergy Workflow System, printers can further enhance their productivity and efficiency and deliver higher value, targeted communications to their clients.

Steve Ford, business development manager Digital Print Solutions, Kodak  Australia and New Zealand, “The NexPress SE Platform represents a technology breakthrough in digital printing, with unrivaled flexibility, productivity and image quality. This is a game-changing digital press . It leverages new Kodak innovations in image quality, dry inks, and software to deliver superior offset class output.”

One of the most significant innovations of the SE Platform is the new Kodak NexPress Intelligent Calibration System (ICS), which ensures the highest quality output possible. This  solution allows the press operator to automate the process of ensuring uniformity of printed output.

This automated process takes less than five minutes and is an integral part of the image quality enhancements delivered in the NexPress SE Platform. This innovative system uses a Kodak i1220 ICS Scanner to capture and analyse colour output and feed critical data back to the system for closed-loop colour calibration. ICS also comprises an easy-to-use software application that sits directly on the digital front end of the press, giving customers greater uptime and the ability to run a wider range of demanding jobs.

A second noteworthy materials science innovation is the Kodak NexPress Enhanced Dry Ink and Kodak NexPress Developer, a new formulation of ink and developer designed to improve image quality by delivering offset class smooth flat tints, and print consistency across jobs and over time.

It also features 25 per cent more ink per bottle, reducing bottle waste and time to reload ink. To complement the Enhanced Dry Inks, hardware modifications in the imaging modules improve output smoothness, consistency, and uniformity.

The third significant technology breakthrough is the Kodak NexPress System Software version 11, the first front end in the market with Adobe PDF print engine 2.0 for higher productivity and seamless workflow integration. From compatibility with the latest PDF standards to seamless integration when implementing variable data printing (VDP) capabilities, the NexPress System Software version 11 improves file processing significantly.

“The new NexPress SE Platform enables print service providers to create high-value, unique applications that help to differentiate themselves in the marketplace,” added Ford. “This is about driving new revenue opportunities for our customers and increasing their client’s return on marketing investment.”

For current NexPress Press customers using the previous models, Kodak offers an SE Platform upgrade path that allows customers to leverage existing investments. NexPress Presses are upgradeable to SE Platform capabilities and most can also be upgraded to 120ppm for maximum productivity.
