Komori launches new 8-up A1 press

Japanese press manufacturer Komori has launched a new size press, the A1 Lithrone G37, built to print eight-up A4 jobs

The new 37-inch H-UV offset press is aimed at magazine and general commercial printers looking for a cost-effective A1 capable upgrade. It has a maximum print area of 640x940mm.

Rayne Simpson, general manager of Australian distributor Ferrostaal, says the Lithrone G37 can fit eight A4 size pages and a colour bar on one sheet making it suitable for all commercial work as well as posters and magazines.

He says any printer with an A2 press looking to take the next step can do almost all the work of an A1 size model without the running costs of a bigger machine.

“A key selling point of the G37 is you can get the same quality and print on demand capability as the G40 but save big on plate costs, paper, waste, and efficiency,” he says.

“There are a lot of A2 presses out there and this lowers the barrier to entry into the A1 market and allows printers to compete with bigger presses.”

The press will be particularly good for magazine printers, who will be able to produce 16 page sections with a perfecting press – instead of eight possible on a B2 machine – ready to be cut, folded and bound.

Komori says the press addresses the critical needs of short turnarounds, the flexibility to print many different printed products, short runs, and low cost.

It says the G37 is the only high-quality 37-inch offset press equipped with UV printing for on-demand jobs.

The press can print at 15,000 sheets an hour and with H-UV it provides instant drying. Australian customers can place orders now.

Rival Japanese press manufacturer Ryobi MHI launched an A1 press a few years ago, the Ryobi 920, and has seen considerable success with it.
