Kosdown continues wide format expansion

Derik Downie director of Kosdown says the 3.2 metre wide Vutek, purchased through iMedia, is a significant jump on the company’s previous machine which was just 1.6 metres wide. He adds it is already garnering the interest of his clients with its ability to print colour and white in a single pass.

He says, “With the 3200’s size and speed we can now offer clients more options who can then expand on what they offer their own customers.

“We had to knock down a few walls to fit the new machine in but it’s certainly an investment that will create more opportunities for us.”

After 28 years as an offset printer, Kosdown Printing recently upgraded its wide format facility at its Port Melbourne site. The company is now servicing exclusive wide format customers on top of its offset clientele.

Downie says the move into wide format was influenced by an influx of large format requests by its offset customers.

He continues, “We had seen wide format equipment at several trade shows and we decided to do a mini survey with our clients to determine how much wide format work they had. It turned out that some of our clients were doing more wide format than offset, so it warranted investment in that direction.”
