The Foil & Specialty Effects Association awarded prizes in 25 categories this year, judging cold foil applications separately for the first time.

Kurz says its Gold Leaf award winning brochure called Metal Lab demonstrates the variety of effects that can be achieved through the interplay of cold foils and printing and adds that it offers a source of ideas for designers, production managers and marketing specialists.

Mark Stocker, managing director Kurz Australia New Zealand, says, “Kurz in Australia and New Zealand continues to be the dominant supplier, with a comprehensive range of quality products for the graphic market. Cold foil in the narrow web industry continues to grow while the past 12 months has seen two companies in Australia introduce cold foil printing to the sheet industry. This process applying foil inline has created opportunities, both in simply adding foil on jobs that previously were thought to be not suitable and for special effects not achievable through hot stamping.”

Kurz won its two Silver Leaf awards for its Inspiration packaging collection entered in the Self Promotion and the Finishing Processes Combined with Sustainable Materials categories. Inspiration presents, in a sliding box, a varied selection of packaging blanks. Kurz says this sample collection demonstrates the design possibilities opened up by the various combinations of paper type, printing method, lacquering, and hot stamping or cold foiling processes. The company adds that the collection aims to inform designers of all the available design options.

Kurz also supplied the foil for all six graphical products that received awards in the two categories ‘Cold Foil – Self Promotion’ and ‘Cold Foil – Client Promotion.’
