LIA names new president and NSW Graduate of the Year

The annual event, which was held at the Sydney Rowing Club last night (18 May), celebrated seven printing apprentice graduates spanning finishing, offset and screen-printing and pre-press.

The awards were sponsored by Heidelberg and northern region sales manager Richard Timson (left) was on hand to present the awards, as well as offering some words of encouragement. There was also a speech by John Benyon a veteran of greetings card company John Sands.

David Wells praised the high quality of the entries, and said selecting an overall winner was a “tough decision”.

Winner Scott Mohammed (right) thanked his trainers and family in an emotional speech, saying: “I wouldn’t have been here without the help of the team at Sony DADC.”

The seven graduates were judged by an LIA panel through an interview and portfolio process.

The new LIA board includes Mirotone technical sales representative David Wells as president Fuji Xerox’s Denise Thompson as vice-president, and Coffy Print & Copy director Mark Price as secretary.
