LIA reveals graduate of the year

The Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA) held its annual LIA-Heidelberg Graduate of the Year and the Early Stage Apprenticeship Awards with Sarah Kennedy from Colorcorp taking out the graduate of the year gong.

Stage one, two and three apprentices winners were announced with Kyal Ragh from APN receiving the stage one award, Jack Kelly from Southport Printing presented the stage two award and Andrew Rett from Inprint winning the stage three award.

More than 120 people attended the night which was held at South Bank in Brisbane.

Mel Ireland, federal president at LIA says, “This has been a great night and highlights all the good things that our industry has to offer. I also want especially thank the sponsors and the training organisations who put forward their best and brightest.”

Print historian and educator, Clinton Harvey spoke to the audience on the resurgence of letterpress printing and the history of print in Australia. The underlying theme to the industry at large was not to overlook the rich history of printing in Australia.

Brendan Pearce, LIA QLD Vice President says, “The discussion on selecting winners this year was as tough as it gets. The quality of the contenders made it extremely difficult to split them.”

This year also saw the inaugural presentation of the Gary Bender – Industry Contribution Award named in honour of long time industry and LIA contributor, Gary Bender. Bender received the trophy from LIA Federal Vice President Bernie Hockings.
