The NSW branch of the Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA) is hosting its annual awards night on May 17, in association with Heidelberg.

The awards night will recognise the most talented graduates, the winner of which will be sponsored by Heidelberg to attend the LIA’s national graduate awards, held biannually.

The graduates include Dominic Holgate of Look Printing; Shane Ippaviz, Integrated Packaging; Jake Tompsett, Offset Alpine; Adrian Xeureb, Blue Star Group; and Laura Burgett, who recently graduated from SkillSet’s Spatial Services course.

Mitch Mulligan, NSW committee member, LIA says, “The graduates are nominated by both TAFE and registered training organisations, as the cream of the crop for their year.”

This year it is to be held at the Carnarvon Function Centre, Carnarvon Golf Club, in Lidcombe. The $99 tickets include drinks, wine, and a dinner. Bookings close on Friday May 12.

The night also features guest speakers: Andrew Macaualay of PIAA, and Newcastle University physics Professor Paul Dastoor, who is currently working on a solar ink which can be printed cheaply on flexible films.

Mulligan says, “This is the longest running award for the industry and started in 1972. Some 10-15 graduates compete for the national prize, which includes a $15,000 prize. In past years that money has been used to go to drupa, attend conferences, and bring back expertise and knowledge to Australia.

“We encourage people to attend, as it is a great night, and it is good for the graduates. It is a celebration of our industry and its up and coming leaders.”
