Ligare scores bronze in NSW sustainability programme

The programme is designed as a series of consultative modules to assist NSW business and corporations to develop and implement a comprehensive action plan that integrates sustainability into operational objectives.

The recognition scheme is stepped so as to recognise participants for their achievements to date and Ligare was one of only three printers honoured this year.

Joining the programme in 2009, Ligare is currently working through its 4th module – resource efficiency – with a view to attain the Gold recognition in 2012. The programme has provided a well resourced platform for Ligare staff and management to understand sustainability and to translate the company’s sustainability objectives into operational realities.

Wayne Bywater, general manager of Ligare says the recognition is a bonus to what is becoming a great way to engage staff and improve efficiency. He says, “This programme is a great tool for the staff at Ligare as the sessions operate in a very consultative atmosphere and everyone is given their chance to raise concerns and work through solutions.”

Operationally, the integration of sustainable objectives in management decisions has already proved effective, with the business looking to save over 340,000 litres of water every year with the installation of a new Fuji plate maker in June, which effectively reduces prepress water usage to zero.

Also commenting, Cliff Brigstocke, Group CEO of Opus Print Group who was involved in the start up of the program says, “I liked this approach from day one as it took a common sense and measured approach to rolling out a program that genuinely makes a difference.”
