Lindsay Yates ends digital production in Sydney CBD

The digital printer in Clarence St, which was established in 1977 and acquired by the owners of Lindsay Yates Group in 1983, will maintain a sales office in town, with digital production run out of the Artarmon factory.

Director David Shoppee told ProPrint that the move reflected changes in technology.

“Because Lindsay Yates is located so close to the city, there isn’t a need to maintain a production facility in the city, but we will maintain a sales office.

“The business at 191 Clarence St has been there since 1983. When it was first established, we didn’t have the internet and all digital reproduction was off hard copy so a shopfront was very important… that is no longer the case,” said Shoppee.

Allied Graphics’ equipment has already been moved into the Artarmon premises. It includes an Océ VarioPrint 6150 and TDS 6000, Konica Minolta Bizhub Press C8000 and Pro C6500, a Roland DG wide-format printer and a 2m-wide mounting machine.

This digital arsenal joins a Bizhub C6000 and a Xerox Nuvera at Artarmon, along with Lindsay Yates’ offset printing fleet.

Shoppee said that Allied Graphics’ entire production workforce had moved across, while a new sales rep had been added in the CBD.

He added that the plan was to increasingly merge the two brands. “We will progressively see Lindsay Yates and Allied co-branded. That is already starting to appear.”
