Local collaboration develops new digital label press

According to the partners, the new SRG1001 digital press is ideally suited to label printing as well as forms, security printing, mailers and lotteries. The press is set up with corona treating, laminating and die cutting, which is a configuration of particular interest to local label and tag printers.

Commenting on the new press, which is ready for delivery to a Sydney-based customer, Richard Birch, business manager commercial printing at Visy Technology Systems says it’s a commendable achievement to have a locally built digital label press on the market.

He says, “The SRG1001 is a fully functioning label press with digital features and because it is modular in its construction, it can be built to suit a particular customer. The people who have come to see the machine have been impressed by its quality, flexibility and the fact it’s made in Australia.

“While the ink is more expensive than an offset press, there are no plates, which reduce costs significantly. Also, make ready times are extremely quick and the first print off the press is sellable.”

Also commenting, Peter Jessop, director of Rotary Engineering says the press was built modular to enable printers to make an initial low investment but also give them the opportunity to adopt to changing technology.

He says, “Whether a user wants a rewind option or additional folder it can be done. We have tried to keep it as flexible as possible. We have found that people also like to buy from an Australian manufacturer as we are on the ground here for any mechanical or electrical support.”
