Mezographic buys first Kombo finishing set in Aus

Melbourne wide format printer Mezographic has bought new finishing equipment to keep up with its upgraded fleet of flatbed and latex printers installed in July.

The company has ordered a Elitron Kombo SD+ automatic cutting and finishing plotter, with cutting speeds of up to 102m per minute and die-less finishing, and is planning to buy a Kombo TH cutter and plotting system in the next six months.

The kit is supplied by Spicers’ wide format division, and is the first of Elitron manufactured solutions in the country, with Spicers just tying up a deal to bring the popular Italian manufactured gear into the country.

The new finishing gear will fuel Mezographic’s printing upgrades, which has seen it swap a HP Scitex FB7600 and two smaller latex printers for a HP FB10000 and a Latex 7600.

Director Frank Mezo says he is looking forward to the machine’s installation, which he first saw at Fespa in London last year.

“I was impressed with its speed. It is definitely the fastest cutter I have ever seen,” he says.

“We purchased it to keep up with the output from our FB10000 and we are confident it will do so. The technology is fantastic and the Seeker System is incredible.”

Spicers says says the Kombo SD range is dedicated to the new requirements of the cardboard, digital printing and signage industries.

The flexible die-less finishing SD systems (made of solid cellular steel) have automatic tool pre-setting and a multi-tool cutting head for cutting, creasing and milling materials up to 120mm thick.

The Kombo TH is a dual gantry cutting table, which Elitron says makes it twice as fast as similar machines, while the Kombo TAV is a dual gantry, fully automated cutting table, and claims to be the only SuperPlotter with two different cutting heads on the market.

It is integrated with Airo Panel to automatically unload materials; a vacuum panel that removes all worked and waste materials with great force and without leaving scraps behind.

The systems can be equipped with Elitron’s Seeker System, a digital eye that automatically recognises images and reference points, and the Video Projection feature for a better material yield.

Spicers sign and display national sales manager Jason Hay says: “These machines complement any flatbed printing or packaging applications in our product portfolio, and those of our competitors. If you have been looking into Zünd, Océ ProCut, Aristo or Esko, then Elitron is a must-see.”
