Minuteman Footscray celebrates 10 years

Ten years after establishing their Minuteman Press franchise in Footscray, Melbourne, Ed and Fiona McDonnell are celebrating a milestone in the industry and have no plans to slow down.

In 2005, the McDonnell’s were searching for a franchising opportunity. After exploring food franchises such as Subway, Quiznos and Gloria Jeans they were approached by the Minuteman Press team at a local franchise trade show.

Despite having zero print experience, US native Ed felt compelled to join Minuteman after recognising the brand from his former home country.

“We had just moved back from Sydney to Melbourne and were looking for an opportunity,” Fiona explains.

“We loved that no experience in printing was necessary, and met with established Minuteman Press owners in Melbourne with background as diverse as banking, chemical companies and supermarket/retail managers.

“The business model made sense – the figures stacked up and we loved the margins available with print.”

Ed and Fiona say being their own boss has given them a sense of control, community and excitement with no two days ever the same.

After just experiencing their best sales month since they began their operation, Fiona says the goal in 2016 is to grow the business by at least 10 per cent.

Her advice to potential franchise owners is, “People are you greatest asset – hire well and reward them for their contributions.”
