Mitsubishi rewrites history

The Diamond Max-V was a highlight of Mitsubishi‚s drupa presence. Until now, Mitsubishi says, the circumference of the plate cylinder has basically defined web offset press signature cutoffs. This press goes against that tradition, handling variable cutoff sizes from 546mm to 625mm.

Its rewritable plate system works by having the aluminium as a bed on which a special polymer coating film is applied. Text, illustrations and photos for printing are created on the film by direct digital imaging. After printing, the film is washed from the plate and a new coating film applied, thereby enabling one plate to be used repeatedly. Mitsubishi says it is the first company to show this technology in a commercially viable form.
