Miyakoshi and Ryobi into B2 digital

The press on display is an 8,000sph an hour machine, with the eventual production model slated to be 10,000sph. The company is hoping to launch a commercial version of the press by Ipex 2014.

Bernard Cheong, managing director of Ryobi Australia New Zealand, says, “It will have a particle size of just one to two microns, which is a tenth the size of conventional toner, so the print quality will be excellent.” Cheong says there will be a Ryobi branded version of the press when it is ready, and says, “It will be on the Ryobi stand when it can be sold as a workhorse.”

The new press combines the 1,200 dpi high resolution and ultrafine particle liquid toner electro-photographic technology Miyakoshi demonstrated on a web press at drupa 2008 with the high-speed sheet feed technology Ryobi has perfected for its sheet-fed offset presses.

The companies say that, through offset transfer of ultrafine particle liquid toner from a photosensitive drum to the media, this new digital press is able to offer high printing quality comparable to offset printing. They add that, although recent advances have been made in commercial inkjet printing quality, this high level of quality is not yet achieved with an inkjet system.

In addition to small-lot printing applications such as catalogues, posters and packages, they see this new B2-size liquid toner type digital printing press as ideal for high-quality, large-size variable printing. Based on the response it receives at drupa 2012, preparations will move toward its market release.
