New egg printing system launched

Domino Printing Sciences has developed a new range of continuous inkjet printers which can print high-contrast codes on brown and white eggs, as demand for egg coding technology increases. Domino’s A-Series i-Tech systems A420i and A520i have been designed in partnership with Moba and Sanovo egg graders which Domino believe will ensure better performance and reliability. The A520i can also provide coding in harsh environments with its compact stainless steel cabinet. Product marketing manager at Domino Greg Treanor says egg coding has become a booming print market driven by consumer demand for produce origin information and new legal requirements.

“Egg coding is a legal requirement in an increasing number of countries, as codes contain the traceability and food safety information that allow eggs to cross borders and be exported,” Treanor says. “Since 2004, a producer code regulated by EU law has allowed consumers to distinguish free range and organic farming eggs from those produced by hens in industrial cage complexes.” Domino’s A420i and A520i systems are compatible with new direct food contact inks 4RD006s and 4BL004s which are FDA approved. The new inks can print a higher contrast code on eggs. Domino solutions development manager Bob Lilley says their technology and experience will keep them at the forefront of the egg market, “We believe we are fully equipped to answer the demands of this key market for the foreseeable future.”
