New letterpress printer opens in Brisbane

What began as an after-work hobby for former advertising creative David Atkinson is now his full-time passion, designing and printing handcrafted invitations, business cards, and custom stationery from scratch, using a vintage 1965 Heidelberg Platen letterpress.

Atkinson, creative director at Little Peach Co told Australian Printer, “I love the craft and result of letterpress printing. The fact I can design something and also print and deliver it really completes the whole process for me as a designer. Letterpress is a dying art form and we want to preserve the craftsmanship of this extraordinary printing method.”

Atkinson says, “We see Brisbane locals turning to the old ways with a love for vintage goods and we’re excited to contribute to the revival.”

True to form, the storefront is located in Woolloongabba, QLD – an area known for antique stores and treasures from a bygone era. Atkinson says, “Having a shop front and studio allows us to meet the clients in a creative environment and show them firsthand the beauty of letterpress and how it works.”

“While we work closely with the clients to develop personalised invitations and stationary, we have also just released a colourful range of gift cards with lined envelopes.” Letterpress at Little Peach isn’t an expensive or time poor activity, the company prides itself on quick turnarounds and competitive prices

Little Peach says in an effort to spread the tradition of letterpress and show off its hand crafted products, the studio strives to make letterpress as accessible as possible.

“Most people are not sure what letterpress is all about, so we are happy to explain the process. It’s been a long road, but we are excited to finally open our shop doors to Brisbane locals,” concludes Atkinson.

In addition to the Heidelberg Platen Little Peach Co also has an antique foiler. It offers jobs from one-offs to full wedding packages.
