NewsMediaWorks award entries closing tomorrow

Entries for the News Media Awards, run by print news advocacy group NewsMediaWorks, are closing tomorrow, with several categories open for news printers.

The Best Run of Press award recognises technical excellence in a general newspaper product with sections being printed as ROP (run of press), open to singlewidth or double-width products, with judges evaluating evaluate overall reproduction and print quality.

Faults or defects on the selected pages will be generally separated into the following: Density / registration / mechanical / photo & graphics reproduction. Defects are those that noticeably detract from the aesthetic value of the page. Each of the defects results in the recording of a defect code and a deduction of points from the page.

NewsMediaWorks says the general newspaper product submitted must carry the masthead of the product (including all ROP sections). The product must be printed between March 12 to April 27, 2018, while entrants should collect three copies per day during this period in preparation for submission. Printers wishing to enter weekly newspapers may pick a print time closest to the four dates to submit.”

The Print Centre of The Year award recognises the vibrant and revenue-generating facet of the business and celebrates the best work in the Asia Pacific region.

NewsMediaWorks says, “A submission of a minimum 500 words is required to state the case for being named Print Centre of the Year. In the submission, state staff numbers, key outputs and responsibilities, and staff resources.

“Send in three examples of work from the Print Centre. No restrictions are placed on what these products might be. Judges will consider innovation, health and safety and environmental initiatives, as well as delivering to readers and advertisers top-quality printed products and services, quickly and efficiently.”

There are also product innovation categories, which recognise innovation excellence in news publishing. Judges will reward innovative product development, execution and user experience that enhance storytelling and audience engagement with news media.

The Best Use of Print award recognises excellence in product development in print newspapers, inserts, supplements, or other printed products that creatively connect with audiences or advertisers. Judges will look for outstanding content, design and effective ways of using print to enhance reader utility and enjoyment.

The Best Run of Press and Print Centre of the Year awards must be submitted by post, while all other entries should include links to PDFs or full digital replicas of print editions.
