NewsMediaWorks CEO resigns

Mark Hollands, CEO, NewsMediaWorks has resigned after four years at the head of the news media association, which is now searching for a successor.

Hollands says, “I would like to thank my colleagues, who continue to make an important and enthusiastic contribution to our industry. They share my love of this industry and respect for those who work so hard to deliver journalism to our nation every day.  It has been a pleasure to work with them. The time is right to move on, however, as I have a number of personal interests in Australia and overseas that I wish to pursue.”

NewsMediaWorks says that under Hollands’ leadership, it has undertaken a series of initiatives to support Australia’s leading news media publishers and communicate the sector’s value proposition to advertisers.

The company says these include the 2013 launch of the cross-platform readership metric emma (Enhanced Media Metrics Australia), rebranding the organisation to reflect the multi-platform nature of today’s news media publishers, and implementing the News Media Index, which reports whole of industry advertising revenue.

Michael Miller, chairman, NewsMediaWorks says, “The board wishes to thank Mark for his important contribution to NewsMediaWorks as well as the wider news media sector. The industry body will continue to focus on helping create operational efficiencies for the benefit of all publisher members.”

Hollands departed the organisation yesterday, and is currently overseas on holiday. The board says it will conduct a search for a new CEO to continue the organisation’s work in areas such as industry cooperation.

NewsMediaWorks is a non-profit advocacy group for the commercial value of print and digital news sectors in Australia, and was founded 2006 by Fairfax Media, News Corp Australia, APN News & Media and Seven West Media.
