Print & Logistics Canberra has taken out the top prize in NewsMediaWorks’ Inform summit Panpa newspaper of the year awards.

Formerly known as Capital Fine Print, the Fairfax-owned newspaper printer runs a Geomann double-width UV press, which the company says allows it to produce a range of traditional coldset and gloss newspapers and magazines.

The large capacity press capable of producing up to 128 pages full colour tabloid in one pass. Print & Logistics says, “With flexibility built in we are able to produce not only tabloid but broadsheet and quarter-fold newspapers.  Recently investing in UV, we are able to produce magazines on gloss stocks in a range of sizes outside of broadsheet and tabloid sizes.

“The press comes with in-line stitching and trimming allowing gloss products up to 64 pages (tabloid) to be printed, stitched and trimmed on-line. This offers our customers great flexibility with turnaround times.  Files delivered to our prepress department are digitally generated on computer to plate allowing PDF files to be delivered minutes before allocated press time.  Our publishing department can cater for all modes of final delivery including bulks and keys.”

In the double width segment, the community paper award also goes to Print & Logistics, for its printing of the Yass Tribune. The regional award is won by Rural Press, also owned by Fairfax, for its printing of The Land. The National/Metropolitan award is won by News Corp’s Chullora Print Centre, for its printing of The Australian, while the Pre-Print or Supplement award is given to News Corp’s Darwin Print Centre for Off the Leash.
