Notorious cost-cutter sizes up ACP

Parker has been appointed chairman of the company after being added to the board six months ago, with the business reported to be some $4.2 billion in debt. He takes over from Adrian MacKenzie, who will retain a position on the board.

Parker takes on the role after leaving his position as chief executive of the Greater London Authority, where he was unable to successfully bring a corporate touch to the administration of the UK capital. He has previously served as chief executive at Clarks and the Automobile Association, where he reportedly halved the 7000-strong workforce during his tenure.

“PBL Media is a dynamic business with a proven management team,” Parker said in a statement this week. “We are committed to making a success of the investment, which is performing well in a difficult economic environment.”

Parker is currently in Sydney to review various aspects of the PBL media empire, with the chairman meeting with ACP executives yesterday.

His appointment comes one week after the head of ACP, Scott Lorson, was sacked by PBL.
