UV flatbed manufacturer Océ, a subsidiary of Canon, is set to ship its 5000th Océ Arizona printer since it first launched the series in 2007, making it by far the world’s biggest selling flatbed printer. The company says this milestone achievement demonstrates the acceptance of these award-winning UV flatbed printers by printers around the globe.

The 5000th unit – which is yet to be built and shipped – is a new Océ Arizona 6170 XTS printer, one of the new makes for the high volume market. The recent introduction of the Océ Arizona 6100 series marked Canon’s entrance into the high-volume flatbed market segment. The company says the new machine features continuous printing speeds of up to 155sqm per hour, making it more than ten times as productive as the first Océ Arizona printers. South Australia’s John’s Print Centre is the first Australian printer to install the Océ Arizona 6170 XTS. Dale Mortimer, director international marketing and business development at Océ Display Graphics Systems, says since the first install in May 2007, the series has helped transform the sign and display printing industry.

Mortimer says, “The world of imaging is changing radically, we know, because we are helping to drive that change with products like the Océ Arizona series. “As the first flatbed printer to use Océ VariaDot gray scale piezoelectric printing technology, the Océ Arizona 250 GT printer set new print quality standards, and significantly expanded the application set for flatbed printing. “Today, eight years since the launch of the first product, Océ Arizona series printers have been integrated into the production workflows at thousands of customer sites in more than 60 countries.” The Océ Arizona printers are developed at Océ Display Graphics Systems, which is located near Vancouver, Canada, and produced both there and at Océ facilities in Germany.
