Opus shuts the door on MPG Melbourne

The Mulgrave facility’s Heidelberg 102 and Roland 305 will go to Maryborough and the Heidelberg XL105 will go to Canberra. The company will relocate its Melbourne based office, admin and sales operations will be relocated to other offices in Melbourne.

Opus Group told Australian Printer, “The strategy is designed to put our presses to our existing facilities to deliver content faster and smarter. As a consequence of its closure all Mulgrave shopfloor positions will be made redundant with a staged exit from the business, beginning November 12.”

Opus management will begin discussions with affected employees immediately in regard to the proposed exit dates, and redeployment options, complying with all provisions within the relevant site enterprise agreement.

The company continues, “There are opportunities for potential re-deployment to other Opus locations at Maryborough, Canberra and Sydney if any employee is interested.

“MPG will make every effort to provide affected employees with practical assistance and support to help them through this difficult period. MPG has held discussions with the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) and will continue to be involved throughout this process.”

The Mulgrave site will close on January 31, 2013.
